Fantasy- Prone personality?

Post by Zsababy »

I know this is kind of a cousin to limerance, but how many of you feel like you may have a fantasy-prone personality that stems from childhood loneliness or abuse ( it can also come from parents who encourage a lot of make-believe)

I think mine comes from my history of loneliness and depression. I guess while tonight I felt like an idiot about my fantasy addiction to a famous musician, I guess I should be gentle with myself and realize it's probably a habit from loneliness and boredom.

Actually, upon more reading, it looks like Fantasy Prone Personalities can have difficulty distinguishing fantasy from reality. I don't think I'd go that far...
But when is it maladaptive daydreaming?
I had a therapist tell me that my fantasizing "hurts you". Up till now, I thought of my fantasizing as relatively harmless as long as I don't do anything stupid. But the constancy of it is a little unnerving.
(BTW, I just deleted all his photos from my phone. At least I won't have any physical reminders for awhile...)

I have just learned about maladaptive daydreaming and it’s an interesting concept. I’ve always been a big daydreamer. Thanks for the link
