Riddle -

A man and his son were in a terrible car accident and were both badly injured and unconscious. They were taken to two different hospitals for life-saving treatment.

The surgeon on call at the hospital saw the boy and said, I can't perform this surgery, that boy is my son.

How is this possible?
The surgeon was his mother!
:D
Funny where this riddle turns up—I read it in Blind Spot, a book about implicit bias. In that book, it was thrown out as an example of implicit gender bias—the authors purport that some people’s struggle with the riddle is that some of us assume the surgeon is a man, and thus we experience “cognitive dissonance.”

Oooh what was the book? That's my kind of reading material.

In fact, I'd like to know if you can teach people to find their blind spots. I mean, I know you can in theory, however I'm more interested in learning how to teach others apply it. Hope some of this made sense!

love equality / equity / bias / perceptions / preconceptions /cog dis / the way the brain works / egos / culture humility / critical reflection / cultural agility / intersectionality ... the list goes on.

Hey Idiotic—thx for the recommendation! Never watched Carlin either. Where are his shows available—on YT?

Oh and I also really enjoyed Cristela Alonzo’s Lower Classy.
There are many of his shows on Youtube, if only audio.

Tig Notaro is the best. Her decoumentary “Tig” is that perfect blend of hilarious and emotional/inspiring, it’s in Netflix. Her latest special wasn’t the best but all her others are great and she has another movie where her and a friend go on a road trip to the houses of fans give on the spot stand up performances, there’s nothing like it really.

Also imo the best stand ups like oh all time are Don Rickles(who’s I got to see live when I was like 16 :x :(( ), Richard Pryor, Louis CK, George Carlin, and Robin Williams..so anything by them never fails.

Oh also Cedric the entertainer (and the rest of the guys from the kings of comedy) are great........

this is my new favorite thread... :-B
Tig is funny yeah :-bd

I love Kristen Wigg (sp)-- she may not be stand up either, but she is as funny as hell on SNL or on Bridesmaids. I don't know the sketch on SNL...but there is one where she's a girl at a party always trying to "one-up" everybody. It's hilarious!!!

Stand-up

Angelah Johnson (I saw her perform at a casino...soooooo funny, check her out)

Pete Lee

He was featured on Jimmy Fallon
