Better Money Thread

Post by JupiterTaco » Sat Jan 13, 2018 9:33 am

I just thought something like this would be cool, where we could share articles about ways to make, spend and save money smarter. For those of you on Facebook, The Penny Pincher, Work & Money and RD are good places with that. I mean as well as CNN Money, I think every major news site online has one, but anyway here are some articles I've seen recently:

Become a minimalist...
need less, spend less on crap you don't need , save more for the few things you really want. Money you don't spend is money in your pocket.

This is the blog I have been following for the past 8 months to get my inspirations: , but there are others as well..

How 'bout "downsizing"??? :D

Not a bad idea... :-?

Ha! =))

I got some Converse for my daughter on Passionate Penny Pincher yesterday. :-bd

If you have Aldi near you and haven't been in awhile, check it out! They have improved tremendously in the past few years. 30,000 items in a compact store. Lots of health food too. They own Trader Joe's and have several of the best Trader Joe's items under a different label. My favorite is the roasted red pepper tomato soup in carton. I get all of my staples at Aldi weekly.

Fresh Thyme has both previous week and following weekly specials on Thursday.

Fresh Market has ground beef for $2.99 every Tuesday.

We got rid of cable. For $57/month we have internet on our TV's using an ethernet cable. We bought our own router so that we don't rent one for $20/mo. We spend $100 per year to stream Amazon. Netflix is $10/month. We have rabbit ears :-j which work great for local stations in HD!

Great thread!
I've recently been looking into investments for retirement (I'm 35 trying to think ahead lol)
For fellow canadians here get a TFSA (Tax Free Savings Account) you can hold stocks, GIC's, ETF's etc and all gains are tax exempt (uncle sam cant touch it).
For Americans here I believe its called a Roth IRA. Its never too early or late to start saving!
