Problem with therapy

Talk therapy can help but at times less cognitive treatments are required. Anything related to ANY form of therapy goes here.

Problem with therapy

Post by french girl » Sat May 27, 2017 7:15 pm

Hello !

It's been a year and a half since I went back to therapy, because this limerent episode drove me crazy (three years I've been limerent). (I already followed a kind of therapy a long time ago, for other kind of problems).

So I went back only because of this limerence thing, but I can't seem to persuade therapists this is the biggest problem.

Of course, I have numerous other problems, and I agree they have to take care of the whole person with all his problems, so I probably shouldn't care if the therapist makes me talk about every other problem but this one.

But how can I do to make them consider this problem seriously ? I mean, I had many crushes before, it didn't hurt the way this one does, it was just some nice dreamy crushes to escape from reality, without a consequence. I hope they don't consider this problem like a simple crush.

I don't have any idea how to explain to a therapist what I expect from this therapy : maybe it's just my fault... To me, it seems indelicate to explain to a therapist what interests me in therapy, what I would like to explore : attachment, shadow, projections, all these kind of things that are naturally tied to the limerence problem.

I'd like to be able to adress the limerence problem directly in therapy.

I'd like to talk about the kind of questions David listed in another thread about therapy :

  • Who and what does LO represents for you? - Who does she remind you of?
What was your very first infatuation? What parallels are there?
What contra-sexual aspects is LO showing you (my anima)?
What parts of your shadow is LO showing you?
What's your attachment style in relationships?
What are you distracting yourself from?
What was your early life relationship like with your mother/father?
Does someone know how I could do that, without being embarrassed by the feeling that I'm explaining her how to do her job ?
The therapist says I'm stuck and I don't make any progress, and I agree with that, I just don't know what to do.

In my mind a good therapist should be completely open to addressing those questions with you and taking seriously the intensity of your infatuation/affection for LO.

A good therapist wont feel threatened by anything you bring into the session, that's what you're paying for. Keep in mind you are the customer.
