Erasure, Sometimes. I'm in the mood for something up-beat.

Im glad you liked it spin, all of Cohens songs are gold, and Lhasa de sela is a beautiful singer, she left this world way too soon. I find it slightly ironic that she sang this song too.Spinnaker wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2017 8:01 pm @ Idiodic Loved it.
They misprinted and the song she sings is Who by Fire. Not Everybody knows. Love Leonard Cohen music. Her version of Who by Fire is awesome.
Cohen's song derives from a Hebrew prayer that is sung on the Day of Atonement... Who by fire, who by sword, who by water. When I first reasearched Cohen trying to find every interpretation or meaning behind his songs, I recall the Book of Life is opened and inscribed are all who will live and all those who will die for the over the next year.
In the song, "Who shall I say is calling" IMO makes the song a universal prayer. (I don't believe in predestination, rather see salvation by grace through faith)
Cohen poses that question of who lights or extinguishes our fire. That reminder of our mortality leads me to question how I'm living my life and what am I willing to do to no longer lead a sinful life.
Do you relate the song to limerence?
I didn't know the religious context of the song, thanks for the info, ill check it out.
I understood it as the inevitability and suddenness of death, and 'who shall i say is calling' i interpreted two ways , one as the question is turned to us Who is calling? Is anyone actually calling us or is this it? I wonder if its also an extreme fear , when one dies suppose a person who doesn't believe in anything, and they feel this dread, at the point of death , "who should i say is calling" , who am i to call anyone? How do i surrender to death with this feeling of 'unworthiness'. I don't mean it in the conventional sense, i mean in the sense of not being able to live in authenticity.
I think it comes from the 'nature' of my faith (not religious), or the feeling of lack of it, the feeling i identify with forlornness.
I didn't really think of it in light of LE .... Stuff for me to dwell on today...
